Fighting Gum Disease Where it Starts
Periodontal disease (gum disease) is a serious condition that causes more tooth loss than emergencies, tooth decay, or other common dental problems.
Symptoms of the disease include:
-
Bleeding, swollen gums
-
Gum recession / “long” teeth
-
Loose teeth
-
Bad breath
-
Heavy tartar buildup
Screening for Gum Disease
All patients receive a gum disease screening to pinpoint areas of gum detachment and bone loss. This periodontal exam takes only a few minutes to complete and is usually paired with digital x-rays for a more comprehensive assessment.
Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing
As plaque and tartar accumulate under the gumlines, the gum tissue begins to detach from the teeth altogether. This slow process can be impossible to treat without professional periodontal therapy.
Deep cleanings allow our hygienists to comfortably remove these disease-causing bacteria from the roots of your teeth, creating a clean environment. With dedicated home care, the gums can even re-attach to the teeth. Most deep cleanings use local anesthesia for your comfort and are broken into two separate appointments.
If you’re experiencing symptoms of gum disease, call Evergreen Dental Group to schedule an exam as quickly as possible.
